Twice this year, Attorney General Merrick Garland has publicly stated that his DOJ’s probe into the Capitol attack will go all the way to the top of the criminal hierarchy. Garland didn’t name names, but he was rather obviously talking about Donald Trump and his regime, which were at the top of that criminal hierarchy.

Since that time, major news outlets have reported that the DOJ has secretly had a prosecutorial team running a January 6th grand jury against Trump world for several months. More recently, it’s been reported that Ali Alexander is cooperating with that DOJ probe, and that Alex Jones has (apparently unsuccessfully) tried to cut a deal with the DOJ.

On Thursday, Democratic Congressman (and candidate for Florida Governor) Charlie Crist asked Merrick Garland during a hearing if there’s any information he could share about whether the DOJ is criminally investigating Trump. Garland’s answer, per CBS News: “The Justice Department has a long standing policy of not commenting on existence or progress of investigations other than what we say in court and various filings and procedures.”

Of course that’s not the answer that the “hair on fire” types want to hear. They want Garland to blow the cases against Trump world by prematurely running his mouth about them. But if you have sense for how prosecutors tend to say things, Garland basically just confirmed that the criminal case against Trump exists – which isn’t shocking given the grand jury action. Trump world should be losing sleep over this.
