Tonight is officially a BLUE WAVE

For the past month the entire media has been telling us 24/7 that President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party are in serious trouble in the 2024 election. The media has used everything from fake narratives to fake polls to sell this story, in an attempt at ginning up ratings and playing into the “both sides” camp.

But a funny thing happened tonight: the Democratic Party ended up sweeping every high profile election that was expected to be competitive. The Democrats won the Kentucky race for Governor. The Democrats won the Ohio constitutional question on abortion. The Democrats won the majority in the Virginia Senate. These were the big focuses going into Election Night 2023, and the Democrats won them all. There’s a term for that: BLUE WAVE.

We’re now seeing history repeating in remarkable fashion. Leading up to the 2022 elections, the entire media chased ratings by insisting that the Democrats were in huge trouble. But by the time Election Night 2022 came around, the Democrats over-performed in historic fashion in House races and expanded their Senate majority. Now the media has once again spent the month before the 2023 election insisting the Democrats were in huge trouble, only for the Democrats to win big.

That’s because elections aren’t won by people who stare at their screens. Elections are decided by people who vote, by people who help register others to vote, by people who donate to competitive campaigns, by people who phone bank for competitive candidates, and even by people who simply retweet the competitive candidates’ donation links and such.

Let’s keep this in mind heading into 2024. Tonight’s results make clear that if the 2024 election were held tomorrow, there’s little doubt that the Democrats would win the presidency, the House, and the Senate. But a year is a long time. There will be plenty thrown our way, and victory is never a given. Elections are won by those who make an effort to win them. Our side keeps making a smart and concerted effort to win, which is why we keep winning – in 2020, 2022, and now 2023. And when I say “our side” I mean you. Thank you to those of you who made an effort. Let’s do it again in 2024 and win elections with even bigger stakes.
