We told you Donald Trump sold out Michael Cohen

Over the weekend, Palmer Report explained that Donald Trump had rather clearly thrown Michael Cohen under the bus. How did we know? All we had to do was take one look at the cover of the National Enquirer, which is owned by Trump’s close friend, and routinely tries to steer public opinion in his favor. This time around the Enquirer was trashing Cohen, which would not have happened unless Trump wanted it to. Now it turns out Cohen agrees.

A source close to Donald Trump is telling CNN that, indeed, the National Enquirer cover trashing Michael Cohen would not have happened without Trump’s blessing. CNN then asked Cohen if he saw it the same way, and he replied with “What do you think.” Given Cohen’s sarcastic nature in general, it’s fair to take this as a sarcastic remark as well, and a confirmation that Cohen knows he’s been sold out. At the least, he’s refusing to deny the obvious. So where does this get us?

Ask yourself why Donald Trump would want a major tabloid rag trashing his own fixer on its front cover. Either Trump wants to take the heat off himself by placing it on Cohen, or Trump is trying to punish Cohen because he thinks Cohen has already flipped on him, or both. Last year, as Trump began to come to the conclusion that Michael Flynn was going to flip on him, we saw Trump acting more and more spitefully toward Flynn. Now we appear to be seeing the same thing happen with Trump and Cohen.

Donald Trump may or may not be correct in his belief that Michael Cohen is going to flip on him, However, by making this kind of move against Cohen, he’s likely to help turn it into a self fulfilling prophecy. After this ordeal, Cohen is going to cut a plea deal – it’s just a matter of when.
