Jim Jordan is still insisting that he’ll force a third round of voting tomorrow on his flailing bid to become Speaker, even as other House Republicans leak to the media that they have doubts about whether a vote will even happen. But at least one House Republican is directly stating that it’s over for Jordan.

House Republican John Rutherford posted a statement this evening declaring that “this race is over” and that it’s time for Jim Jordan to “understand this.” Rutherford is demanding that Jordan be replaced with a “consensus candidate” without saying who that would be.

Jim Jordan may or may not think that his bid to become Speaker is over, but some of his House Republican colleagues sure do think it’s over. Otherwise they wouldn’t be this brash in publicly announcing it’s “over” for Jordan. No one in the Republican House caucus would work this hard to get on Jordan’s bad side if they thought there was still a good chance he could become Speaker.
