It’s been a pretty horrific week if you’re a House Republican. At a time when they need to be gaining traction with everyday voters, they’ve decided instead that their narrow House win has given them the mandate they need to double down on crazy. That’s why their attacks on President Biden’s SOTU address have fallen flat, why their rebuttal to the speech was an absolute farce even by the admission of many conservatives, and why thei

first committee hearings have been little more than a clown show coming out of the gate. The GOP needed a win – and they could have had one – with their hearings on social media platforms – but all the hearings did was reveal how Republicans have been pressuring social media for years to make themselves look better.

Republicans have also formed a select committee deliberately for their own purposes to weaponize the government against their enemies – and on Thursday, that became clearer than ever, as Rep. Jamie Raskin reminded Jim Jordan of his own words, spoken not long ago. The committee – Jordan revealed in an interview for right-wing media – was created largely for the purpose of swaying public opinion to get Donald Trump elected in 2024 and return to office.

Raskin quoted Jordan’s words and played the clip. As dismal as it seems for Republicans right now, they’ve had a close brush with getting everything they wanted – and it’s going to keep them acting more malicious than ever. That’s why they keep giving away the game plan – and it’s also why we need to push back harder than ever to defeat them.
