The biggest loser

Sometimes, politicians do incredibly stipend things. For one politician, never was that more true than in the last few months. This politician had a dream: He would “neuter” the issue of abortion. He’d find a solution for EVERYONE.

In the aftermath of election 2023, this same politician sits in utter defeat, possibly asking himself, as have so many losing politicians before him, Where did it all go wrong? Let’s begin at the beginning. Glenn Youngkin won the Governorship of Virginia by a fluke. Republicans were quick to crow and call Virginia “red.” Ah, yes, republicans seem to thrive on saying stupid things, and that was just one of them.

Fast forward to a few months ago. There had been repeated whispers from desperate republicans that the red-vested Virginia Governor should enter the political race late. He had nothing to lose after all. He is term-limited from running for governor again.

And he professed to be: “flattered” that so many were whispering his name regarding the presidency. Youngkin also had delusions of grandeur. That is evident in his thinking that the issue of abortion could be contained.

But think it he did, and he leaned into the issue. Fifteen weeks, he declared pompously, with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. That was the compromise, and he confidently predicted Virginians would eat it up. They did not.

In the wake of Republicans getting trashed in the 2023 elections, the biggest loser is Youngkin. Election night saw the end of his political dream — that he could be the: “savior” Republicans were pining for.

He had many people behind him, hoping things would play out well, that Youngkin could be the sunlight Republicans sought. Instead, he turned out to be one dark cloud of losing. He lost the Virginia senate. the house of delegates and lost his whole hold on power in Virginia.

Democrats flipped the House, and one likely reason for that is because Youngkin was so outright dismissive of women’s rights and put abortion on the ballot himself This was not a wise move, as you can see.

Youngkin got his ass handed to him. He lost big, and with the political losses also went his title of a potential dream candidate. What an awful night for the governor. And yet he deserves it. The condescending way he attempted to get one over on women was nauseating. He seemed to think of himself as the problem-solver of the GOP. Instead, he became part of the problem.

Youngkin announced on Wednesday he was staying right where he is and not jumping into the presidential race. Had the results been different, he’d likely not have done that. He deserves all the humiliation. This happens when you underestimate a movement, when you try to fool the makers of the movement. Congrats on your defeat, Youngkin. It couldn’t have happened to a bigger fool.
