The Trump-era Republican Party reached a new low today when House Republican Ted Yoho accosted Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the Capitol steps today and called her a “f*cking b*tch.” According to the Hill, which first reported, the incident, Yoho snapped after AOC dared to suggest that the recent increase in crime in New York City is a result of worsening coronavirus-related unemployment.

Here’s the thing. There aren’t two sides to this. This wasn’t a matter of two members of Congress getting into an inappropriate shouting match. This was a matter of AOC simply voicing a view about poverty, and Yoho going berserk on her in a way that might have gotten him arrested if he’d done it to a random woman on a sidewalk. Why did Yoho accost AOC, and not any of the men in Congress who have expressed similar views about poverty? The misogyny here is painfully obvious.

Ted Yoho clearly doesn’t have the temperament to be in Congress – not even close. Yoho has already announced that he’s not seeking reelection in 2020, meaning he’s set to be gone from office in January. That’s not soon enough. The House needs to expel him. His district can send someone else to finish out the rest of the term who doesn’t behave like this. But we doubt the cowards in the House Republican leadership will lift a finger.

In any case, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won the day when she responded to Yoho’s meltdown with this tweet:
