When the walls of justice are closing in on you, there’s a stage where you think you’re going to get away with it all, and you focus on strategy accordingly. Then there’s a stage after that where you realize that no strategy or plan is going to save you, and you instead resort to increasingly delusional magic carpet ride rescue fantasies. Donald Trump is now firmly into the latter stage.

Trump’s latest social media meltdown started like this: ALL POLITICAL PROSECUTIONS OF YOUR FAVORITE PRESIDENT, ME, MUST STOP IMMEDIATELY.” Well okay then, he sure told us. Since Trump can make his criminal cases go away by simply demanding as much, why doesn’t every criminal try it? Oh right, because it doesn’t work.

Interestingly, Trump is now quoting “Section 9-85.500 of the Justice Department’s Justice Manual” while making the argument that he can’t be prosecuted. Uh, yeah, sure, because no one ever thought of that either. Trump is now at that stage of his downfall where someone told him that there’s a magical page in the DOJ manual that gets him off the hook, and he’s clinging to it because there’s nothing else to cling to.

Nothing is going to save Donald Trump because there’s nothing that can save Donald Trump. If there were, Trump would be focusing on that, instead of clinging to simplistically hallucinatory fantasies.
