There are plenty of people in the mainstream media who are doing a hero’s job of trying to cover the coronavirus crisis. That said, this week we’ve heard one too many mainstream media outlets and pundits praising Donald Trump for adopting a more somber tone, which they say is evidence that he’s finally taking this crisis seriously. This needs to stop.

We’re not talking about some random down-on-his-luck guy who lost his way and his finally admitting that he has a problem. If the pundits want to pat that guy on the back as a way of encouraging him, more power to them. But Donald Trump is supposed to be the President of the United States. He’s been refusing to do the job, and thousands of Americans have died as a direct result. He doesn’t get an “atta boy” just because he’s finally decided to do the job.

Besides, Donald Trump still isn’t doing the job. Look around. The medical supplies aren’t where they need to be. The Defense Production Act still hasn’t been properly invoked. He’s still telling harmful lies during these press conferences. Trump isn’t suddenly taking this seriously. He’s just continuing to be negligent while using a more somber tone of voice.

You don’t grade a President of the United States on a curve. Donald Trump doesn’t get a free pass just because he’s an inept idiot who’s in over his head. He asked for this job. He worked with Russia to rig the election in is favor so he could steal this job. If he doesn’t want it anymore, he can easily resign. But as long as he’s continuing to do a poor job, the media has to stop going easy on him just because everyone knew he was going to do a poor job. Grade him like any other President, and if he doesn’t like it, screw him.
