Ever since the Republicans’ Project 2025 surfaced, I’ve been pointing out that this is โ€“ rather obviously โ€“ a trap. The plan spells out how Donald Trump is going to return to power and he’s going to magically transform the government into a Republican dumpster fire with the snap of his fingers. The Republicans put this plan out there intentionally, specifically so that everyone on our side would react to it by saying “Oh no, Trump and the Republicans have a secret evil genius plan and going to win, so we’re doomed!” And like a bunch of gullible rubes, numerous prominent voices on our side have indeed begun yelling “Oh no, Trump and the Republicans have a secret evil genius plan and going to win, so we’re doomed!”

The problem is all these naive folks on our side are acting like “Project 2025” is some secret blueprint that they discovered, and that no one was supposed to see it. This is kind of hilarious, given that Republican groups posted the Project 2025 plan on a public website, specifically so everyone would see it.

The plan itself isn’t really anything, other than a declaration that “We’re just going to corruptly do whatever we want.” In other words, it’s exactly what everyone out there already knows Trump and the Republicans would do if they ever returned to power. It’s not even a smart plan. It’s something drawn up by simpletons. But the Republicans are always counting on being able to get the gullible, clueless defeatists on our side to do their PR for them. And so of course the gullible rubes on our side are busy insisting that Project 2025 is some secret evil genius plan that means we’re all doomed.

If you don’t want to make my word for it that the Republicans are using this “Project 2025” narrative to bait you into gullibly spreading the word about how powerful they are, then perhaps you’ll take Steve Bannon’s word for it. He just flat out announced that “we want you to fear” Project 2025. Those are his exact words. Bannon is openly gloating about how many gullible rubes on our side are turning into piles of blubber who spend all day yelling “Oh no, Project 2025 means we’re all doomed!” These gullible folks on our side are literally working as Republican Party publicists โ€“ they just don’t know it.

When we’re at a point where a dimwit like Steve Bannon is taking time on his way into a prison cell to openly mock the folks on our side who are gullible enough to take the “Project 2025” bait and start yelling “Oh no we’re doomed,” I’m not sure what else to even say. Stop taking the bait. All you’re doing is convincing other folks on our side that because the Republicans have some Project 2025 magic wand up their sleeve, there’s nothing we can do to win. That kind of childlike defeatism keeps folks on our side from wanting to bother to put in the work required to win. Please stop. Otherwise you’re the rube who’s so gullible, even an addled clown like Steve Bannon is able to manipulate you into doing his PR for him.
