This article is about a pretender hiding in plain sight. And that person is Steve Bannon. Bannon has, for years, perpetuated an image of a tough-as-nails and jaded fighter who does not feel fear and doesn’t back down from anything. And now we can call bullshit on THAT disguise.

It was all an act, you see. Bannon has long hidden behind his favorite fantasy — courage. In reality though, Bannon has no insight into courage, nor the real heroes that possess it. Bannon’s all hat and no cattle. In these last few months, he’s been trying his best to find any measly way of wriggling out of his upcoming trial.

Why? It is likely to fear. Bannon may yearn to be tough, but for him, courage is over the hills and far, far away from him. As the trial date gets closer and closer, so have Bannon’s efforts to get out of it gone up. And now, to use one of my favorite metaphors ever from one of the best authors ever, Ira Levin: “The aerialist looked down and saw the net being drawn out from under him.”

And now it’s reported that Donald Trump might relent and allow Bannon to testify before the January 6 committee. Trump may send him a letter saying as much.

The Washington Post broke this news; according to them, this is not definite. Many on Trump’s side reportedly don’t want him to do that.

This has not been Bannon’s week. One of Bannon’s lawyers asked to withdraw from Bannon’s case, saying he might, in fact, be a witness.

Then, the police showed up at Banon’s D.C. home. Bannon was the victim of a crank known as a “swatting” incident.

And now this.

Of course, nothing might happen. Trump is known to change his mind regularly. And now Bannon dangles, in Trump land, waiting to have his fate decided by an insurrectionist. This all shows how frightened Steve Bannon is — what a hapless child he is.

Because a courageous person would never have got into this mess in the first place — and certainly would not stake their whole future on what Donald Trump might do. At the end of the day, Bannon is a coward, and a coward is what he will always be.
