Stark raving lunatics

What would you do if you found out one day that your beloved library was soon to be defunded because a group of stark raving lunatics didn’t like the book selections at this library? This is exactly what is happening in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

There is a local group of conservatives there that go by the name of Craighead Citizens. And they have filed paperwork to slash the funds of the library. Why? Because of a gay pride display. The group is furious about the library daring to have LGBTQ books.

This is not a one-community issue. It is happening all over the country. Books are being banned. Libraries are being threatened. I wrote an article not long ago called “See no evil,” where I spoke about an Illinois library that had received some vile threats.

This is a direct result of stark raving lunacy. The only thing is — it’s not the fringe anymore. Stark raving lunacy USED TO BE — confined to the fringes. We spoke about some of the more wacky conspiracy theorists. But here’s the thing: lunacy has arrived in mainstream America. It isn’t the majority, but it is not exactly the fringe either.

And that is another reason to vote. It’s something to tell the voters you come in contact with about. See, most people agree that defunding libraries, threatening to kill librarians, and banning and burning books are not things they would want in America.

The value of an education, the value of KNOWLEDGE, is prized by most in this country. And the best way to carve a path forward and stop all this lunacy is to vote. A complete repudiation of the stark raving lunatics will be what is needed to get these conspiracy theorists and insane conservatives out of our business — for good.
