Donald Trump goes for broke, seizes New York Times phone and email records
Donald Trump is closer to ouster, and closer to a prison cell, than ever. With nothing left to lose, Trump is going for broke. We can see that today with his attacks on Canada, France and the United Kingdom. We’re also seeing that with Trump’s direct assault on the New York Times and the free press.
The Trump administration has just revealed to the New York Times that earlier this year, it secretly seized years’ worth of email and phone records belonging to one of its reporters. Officially, this is an attempt at getting to the bottom of a classified leak. But in reality, this is nothing more than a revenge ploy against a newspaper that Donald Trump personally despises, because it keeps helping to expose his criminal scandals. Trump has spent an extraordinary amount of time ranting about the NY Times on Twitter, while making false accusations and veiled threats against the newspaper. Here’s the thing.
Trump and his criminal loyalists at the Department of Justice secretly took this action against this reporter earlier this year, but chose to disclose it just now, while also indicting the reporter’s source James Wolf for lying to the FBI. Trump and his goons want this to be the story right now. They don’t care how bad this makes them look, or what kind of pushback they receive for it, because it’s too late in the game to worry about that kind of thing.
This is Donald Trump and his remaining loyalists in the government making a last ditch attempt at scaring the media into backing off from reporting on his worsening criminal scandals. He’s targeted the First Amendment rights of a reporter at the major news outlet he hates the most, and now he wants everyone to know about it. Of course Trump is stupid, and he thinks this will cause the media to back off – when in fact it’ll cause the media to step up its efforts tenfold to expose his crimes and oust him.
