Over the past few days Palmer Report has been documenting Joe Biden’s surge in a number of upcoming states – including Michigan, where he’s gone from nine points down in the polls to six points ahead. The national media always pays significant attention to Michigan, so if Biden can win the state, it’ll go a long way to accelerating his momentum.

Just a few minutes ago, Kamala Harris announced on Twitter that she’s endorsing Joe Biden. Why now? She says that she and Biden are holding an event together in Detroit on Monday night. This is clearly an attempt at putting Biden over the top in Michigan – which is an open primary that allows Republicans to cast spoiler votes, and will therefore be tricky for Biden to win, even if he does get the most legitimate votes. But if Kamala is endorsing Biden now, what does that tell us about her potential status as his running mate?

Some observers will theorize that because Joe Biden is rolling out Kamala Harris as an endorser and surrogate now, it means he’s not planning to pick her as his running mate, because if so he would have kept her under wraps for now. Others will theorize that because Biden is clearly aligning himself with Kamala this early on, it means he’s indeed leaning toward picking her.

Truth be told, this endorsement may not tell us anything. But the speculation will of course be off the charts. Then again, that may be part of the goal here. If we reach the point where Joe Biden is sufficiently seen as the presumptive nominee that we’re already having serious running mate conversations, it solidifies the narrative about his momentum going forward.
