Given that Steve Bannon was never going to agree to testify to the January 6th Committee due to the ongoing criminal investigation he’s facing in New York, you have to wonder if the committee made a point of subpoenaing him first, so it could make an example out of him when he refused to comply, and scare others into falling in line.

After all, while Bannon’s dirty hands were all over the January 6th insurrection, some other big names in Trump world played more central roles, such as Roger Stone. In fact two members of the “Oath Keepers” domestic terrorist group, who were working for and consorting with Stone on January 6th, have been criminally charged for the insurrection by the DOJ.

Now that the Bannon criminal referral hammer has dropped, the committee is indeed reportedly moving on to people like Roger Stone. CNN says that the committee is investigating what role Stone and his hired hands really played that day, as well as following the money trail behind the attack.

This is notable because while Stone was pardoned by Donald Trump, the Capitol attack took place after the attack, meaning it’s not covered. If the January 6th Committee can help unearth evidence and testimony linking Roger Stone to the January 6th criminal conspiracy, it’ll increase the odds that the DOJ ends up criminally charging Stone for it. As of now it’s not known whether the DOJ is criminally targeting Stone for the attack or will target him. But more evidence always means a greater likelihood of criminal charges.
