Yesterday, Secretary of Energy Rick Perry announced that he was going to fully cooperate with the House impeachment inquiry, which was a big deal because he played a medium sized role in the Trump-Ukraine scandal, and he probably knows a lot about what really went on. At the time, Palmer Report asked if Perry really was planning to cooperate, or if he was about to stupidly commit perjury in the name of protecting Trump. Now we appear to have our answer.

This evening the news broke that Rick Perry is resigning from the Trump administration. He says he’s not leaving until next month, which is a cute way of trying to make it look like he’s not simply running from the scandal – but the timing is obvious. So is his intent.

If Rick Perry were planning to play games with his testimony in the name of protecting Donald Trump, he’d be making a point of keeping the job. This would allow him to hide behind executive privilege in order to stall on answering any questions he didn’t like. And if Perry were angling for a Trump pardon, he wouldn’t be quitting like this; he’d want to remain as close to Trump’s inner circle as possible.

So it’s now pretty clear that Rick Perry is planning to give legitimately cooperative testimony to the House impeachment inquiry. Perry is corrupt, but he’s also selfish, which means he’ll sell out Trump in a heartbeat if that’s what it takes to keep himself from being indicted.
