Republicans can’t even figure out what to do with this
Did you hear that? It’s the sound of splintering. The GOP is splintering. The whole party is splintering into fragments. That’s because nobody in the cult can agree on what to do about abortion.
This shouldn’t be a surprise. The GOP can never make up its mind about anything, so why should this be any different? If the GOP had a tiny bit of sense, here’s what they would do. They would release a solemn statement to the American people. The statement might go something like this:
“We realize that the majority of the American people believe in a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her body, so being that we serve YOU the people, we’ve decided to step back from abortion, and we will not do anything to hinder a woman from making her own choices.”
Sigh. I think we all know any of us stand a better chance of winning Powerball than the GOP actually making a statement like that.
The fact is every republican is on a different page from each other in regard to this subject. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, fueled by his convictions (and likely an aching need to run for president), is trying to push a 15-week abortion ban. This is not going over well with people, but given the number of democrats in legislative positions in Virginia, I doubt it will happen.
Meanwhile, in Florida, DeSantis is being “nudged” to go further than a 15-week abortion ban. Of course, he is. And he just might do it too, which will surely torpedo any ability to run for president.
Meanwhile, in South Dakota, there is a near-total ban, and the governor there, Kristi Noem, is actually criticizing other Republicans for not being MORE antichoice.
In Kansas, despite the voters they’re rejecting abortion restrictions. A Kansas lawmaker is pushing Kansas legislators to override the views of Kansans and has even introduced new legislation which would allow local governments to do what they like. That’ll be popular with Kansans (Sarcasm.)
Meanwhile, the leader of the GOP, Donald Jon Trump, actually claimed the abortion issue for why Republicans did not win more seats in the midterms. Mike Pence, who will run for president, wants a national abortion ban. Nobody can get out of anybody’s way on this subject, making the GOP look like the fools they are.
