As the GOP makes blunder after blunder, they seem completely oblivious to the fact that Rome is burning. This expression, first used to describe the Roman Emperor Nero, definitely applies to the GOP right now.

President Biden has announced his re-election campaign. And republicans? Their two leading candidates for the nomination are fiddling while the Republican Party burns — and burns – and burns.

Let’s start with Donald Trump. Trump is hard at work, busily repelling everyone around him. In his latest anger outburst, Trump is now refusing to take part in Republican presidential debates. This is because he was not consulted as to what dates would be good. — or at least that’s what he says. See, the RNC has announced its 2024 date schedule! The first debate will be held in Milwaukee this August.

But that did not stop Trump from ranting on truth social. How DARE they don’t consult him on the dates he screamed? How DARE they do anything with his blessing? Calling television stations “hostile networks with angry Trump and Maga-hating anchors,” Trump declared he was not interested in debating.

Oh no! The poor GOP! Their LEADING candidate is leaving them high and dry. What to do, what to do. But wait! Perhaps the burn of stupid isn’t as bad as we thought. After all, they still have Ron DeSantis. Right? Right?

Well –maybe not. You see, Ron DeSantis has managed to repulse almost everyone in the GOP. And Ron DeSantis, King of all things pudding, has just been sued by — you guessed it — the mouse!

That’s right. As I write these words, friends, and readers, my texts are exploding with the news. Disney has sued Ron’s ass. In this litigation, Disney alleges Ron DeSantis has waged “a relentless campaign to weaponize government power” over them.

Disney says that DeSantis “orchestrated at every step” a campaign of punitive punishment designed to punish Disney for daring to speak out and criticize a school classroom bill. This move is guaranteed to make Ron DeSantis lose his mind.

I mean — I think the rubber room might need to make an appearance because Ron DeSantis is too busy letting the mouse in his head drive him bonkers to think much about a Presidential campaign.

The man’s state is falling apart, his donors are fleeing, and he’s too engaged in chasing a mouse to pay attention to any of it. So yes, I feel it’s fair to say that Ron DeSantis’s campaign is currently going up in smoke.

As the chances of the GOP winning back the white house burn to the ground, republicans seem blissfully unaware. They, too, are busy. They’re busy fighting with beer companies and insulting trans people, and trying to subjugate and control women. They seem to have no clue whatsoever that their party is burning to the ground.
