It came on suddenly, without warning, a thief in the night. After all — we’d known about Trump and his motley crew of traitors. Michael Flynn. Sidney Powell. Rudy. We had known about all of them.

And we’d known some Senators were in the mix for lack of patriotism. Josh Hawley and his fist seen round the world is one of them. But few had heard about this one — the one who may or may not be an insurrectionist supporter. I speak of Barry Loudermilk.

Loudermilk’s becoming louder in his anger. How DARE he be questioned about giving mysterious people who take suspicious pictures of stairwells, a jaunty tour?! How DARE anybody question his motivation.

So, in the spirit of horrible straw men arguments, Loudermilk is making a loud argument — only his argument is ridiculous. Loudermilk is (kind of, sort of) accusing Stephen Colbert’s comedy team of being insurrectionists.

This whole thing started because the comedy team was filming a skit for the show. But being that the space was closed to the public, the comedy team was arrested — and released — on the same night.

Loudermilk got wind of it — and faster than you could say, “straw man” made his incompetent move. “We’re in a war against truth in this nation,” Loudermilk thundered. “They are giving illegal tours of the Capitol,” he shrieked. You can’t make up a more moronic comment. You simply can’t.

I imagine Colbert and his team will have a gleeful time with Loudermilk’s comments. Will he never learn? It appears the answer to that question is no. He won’t. Loudermilk has a great deal to answer for. And it’s time those answers came.
