Back on the day that Donald Trump took office, Palmer Report pointed out that once Trump inevitably left office, he would go to prison. This wasn’t merely our opinion, or some kind of naive optimism; it was simply the only plausible outcome. If nothing else, the presidency was going to bring Trump’s past crimes to the surface, and he’d be awaiting indictment once he left.

Weirdly, we seemed to be the only ones who were willing to say it. The media didn’t want to touch it. Other pundits didn’t want to touch it. Even when court filings ultimately revealed that New York had a grand jury in the process of indicting Trump for financial crimes, and those grand jury proceedings led to a widely covered Supreme Court ruling, the media largely still glossed over the fact that this meant Trump was on a path to prison if he lost the election.

We can only presume that the media and the pundits were afraid of getting ahead of the narrative, and taking heat for it from audience members who couldn’t think enough steps ahead to understand that Trump was headed to prison. But I’ve never worried about that, and I’ve always trusted that Palmer Report readers are the type who can in fact think a few steps ahead.

So I’ve spent years pointing out that Donald Trump is going to prison. Now that he’s lost the election, that’s where he’s headed. We don’t know the timeframe for when the New York grand jury will indict him; it could be tomorrow or it could be months from now. But we know it’s coming. And even if Trump tries to preemptively pardon himself on federal charges, he can’t make those state charges go away.

Donald Trump can try fleeing the country. He can try negotiating some kind of resignation plea deal. With his poor health, he could keel over from natural causes before he even gets to prison. But those scenarios aside, Trump is going to prison. Any minute now we’ll start to hear the mainstream media present this narrative as if it were a surprise that came out of nowhere. But then that’s why you read Palmer Report.
