Donald Trump’s pardon paradox isn’t going to be as clean as he thinks
– Trump isn’t just going to pardon all of his henchmen for kicks. He doesn’t care about any of them. He’ll pardon the ones he’s afraid will cut a plea deal against him. He won’t pardon the ones where the Fifth Amendment could be a problem. His pardons will be all about him, not about them. And because he’s surrounded by the world’s worst lawyers, he’ll probably guess wrong on a lot of them anyway. These pardons are a travesty against justice, but I’m almost looking forward to seeing how he screws them up and how they backfire on him. This is going to end up being something of a paradox for Trump.
