During his Fox News show last night, Tucker Carlson claimed that a “whistleblower” informed him that the NSA had been spying on him, and that the NSA planned to leak recordings of him soon. At the time Palmer Report pointed out that for all of the NSA’s faults, this is not something it would do – and that Carlson was presumably trying to create a distraction because someone out there was about to leak an embarrassing recording of him.

We’re still waiting to find out why Carlson pulled this stunt. But the normally secretive NSA is wasting no time setting the record straight. In a remarkable move, the NSA tweeted this statement confirming that at no point has it been targeting Carlson, and that his claims are untrue:

So now Tucker Carlson has really managed to make a fool of himself. The NSA is flat out calling him a liar. Moreover, it’s doing so in language that’s specific enough to leave no wiggle room – which means that everyone can now see Carlson was just making this up. What a whack job.
