No wonder House Republicans hit the panic button today

Earlier today House Republicans hit the panic button by rushing through an impeachment vote against DHS Secretary Alexander Mayorkas. They knew it was a risky proposition because they were in danger of not having the votes, and indeed they only succeeded by one vote. Now we know why they took the risk today.

Tonight’s special election results are in for New York’s 3rd House District, and Democratic candidate Tom Suozzi won by somewhere in the neighborhood of ten points. That’s a stunningly large margin for a toss up race. And it’s something that would have showed up in the Republicans’ internal polling heading into election day.

In other words, House Republicans knew today that they were very likely going to lose tonight. That’s why they had to take the risk of trying to ram through the impeachment vote today, knowing it might fail. They couldn’t wait any longer, because they knew that a Democrat was about to win and be sworn into the House.

This is the fight of our lives. Trump and his unelected henchmen are actively to destroy our government, our democracy, and our way of life. We only have one choice, and that's to fight back as loudly and aggressively as possible.
