No wonder Donald Trump released that video today
This afternoon Donald Trump released a bizarre video in which he tepidly admitted that it’s over for him, promised an orderly transition to Biden, called for the prosecution U.S. Capitol terrorists, and generally sounded scared of his own shadow while reading it all from a teleprompter. Now we know why.
It turns out Trump’s entire White House senior staff threatened to resign today unless Trump recorded and released the video, according to a new report from CNN. This is remarkable because it means that Trump is now so hobbled and powerless, he’s at the mercy of his remaining staff members.
Trump would surely have preferred to not release the video and just let his entire staff resign. But he clearly decided that he needs his senior staff in place in order to survive the final days of his presidency.
It’s a reminder that Trump truly is cornered, scared, and defeated. If anything, with Trump being this hobbled and essentially under the control of his own senior staff, it makes it all the more urgent that he be swiftly removed via the 25th Amendment or impeachment.
