New trouble for Matt Gaetz

The situation in Israel remains very fluid. The attack on Israel left millions stunned, all over the world. So one would think the priority of the House of Representatives would be to help Israel. And maybe it will be. However the House Republicans seem to have something else on their minds, something quite important that is spurring on deep whispers in hallways. That something is — do we or do we not punish Matt Gaetz?

Yep. That is what is uppermost on the (minds?) of the GOP. Here’s the thing, though. In true Republican fashion — republicans can’t make up their minds what to do about Gaetz. To expel or not to expel — that is the question.

Representative Derrick Van Orden told CNN he does not want to pick a new speaker until the Gaetz situation is handled. “We have people in our conference who could shut this House down on a whim again,” he said. “Vile person.” This is from New York Republican Rep Mike Lawler, who’s been everywhere on TV, demanding Gaeyz be held accountable.

I have a question — just a silly little question — for Republicans. Don’t you need a SPEAKER to do ANYTHING to Gaetz? And that would include punishing Gaetz. It appears, however, that the GOP is putting the cart before the horse — nothing unusual where they’re concerned.

So while this tragedy in Israel plays out, while people mourn and while President Biden does his best to help, republicans are deep on the weeds to try to — to try to do SOMETHING, involving punishing the Gaetz sinner who they appear to loathe. Perhaps this is not the best use of their time.

Of course, Republicans wouldn’t KNOW this because they never make good use of their time, which is why no Republican presidential contender has won the popular vote in YEARS. I don’t think the cycle will break this year at all.
