Nancy Pelosi to the rescue again. Thanks to Pelosi, the House voted to form a select committee to investigate the January 6 insurrection. Recall that, again, Democrats tried the bipartisan route, only to be shot down by Republicans. This committee is the next best thing. Pelosi gets to nominate eight members to the committee while Kevin McCarthy gets to nominate five, though he needs Pelosi’s blessing. We can only assume that McCarthy will nominate Trump loyalists, but he has not spoken on the issue so far. He can nominate whomever he wants, but they will have to pass the Pelosi test.

According to the Washington Post, fewer Republicans joined this vote as opposed to the 35 who voted for an independent commission. Because this committee will not be independent, more Republicans shied away from voting in favor of it. Perhaps if they had tried to get their fellow Republicans on board with the earlier vote, we would not be here, but regardless of what they think, this issue needs to be investigated. That is the only way we will ever get to the bottom of it. Get ready for the whining and complaining, and when you hear it, be sure to remind Republicans of their Benghazi investigation which, according to NPR, cost over $7 million and produced no results. They will shout to the rooftops about the waste of taxpayer dollars, but they have no qualms about wasting money when they are trying to stick it to a Democrat.

Two Republicans did vote in favor of the select committee—Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, both of whom also voted in favor of Donald Trump’s second impeachment. Cheney even spoke out in favor of the committee, calling it “our only remaining option.” Out of all the Republicans currently occupying the House, only two want to get to the truth of the insurrection. That says a lot about Republicans in general, but at least these two seem to believe in fairness. Washington Post believes that Pelosi will nominate Cheney to the committee, especially because one of Pelosi’s aides said that she is considering appointing a Republican. Cheney is the natural choice, though Kinzinger would make a good addition as well.

The way that Pelosi has designed the committee, she will have authority to select the chairman, and McCarthy must go through her to choose his five members. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, and Lauren Boebert need not apply. All we need is for this committee to become a circus. Pelosi has control of the committee, and she will maintain her control. Say what you want about Pelosi, but she is a savvy woman who knows how to best work the system in D.C. Her leadership has continued to pay off, and Democrats need to keep her there. Be on the lookout for additional news on this committee as it begins its work. We will finally get to the bottom of what happened on January 6, including their apparently complicated plans and the fact that Lauren Boebert was repeatedly Tweeting Pelosi’s location. This should be interesting.
