What the hell did Mike Pence just do?

Mike Pence, a very strange man, increasingly finds himself in a very strange place. The odds of Donald Trump’s ouster keep going up by the day, meaning Pence is theoretically in place to inherit the presidency. And yet Pence is knee deep in the same whistleblower scandal that’s taking Trump down. So what is Pence doing to try to convince America that he shouldn’t be prosecuted too?

Today, at least, Mike Pence’s strategy consists of offending people in a key swing state. He decided to visit Mackinac Island in Michigan, which famously doesn’t allow vehicle traffic. Because Pence is tone-deaf, self-important, and incredibly insecure, he decided that he needed a gigantic motorcade to take him around the island. That’s just not something you do.

If the Trump-Pence ticket even makes it to the 2020 election, this idiotic and rude stunt will be used against them by the Democrats, the media, and the locals who feel that Pence violated something sacred today. It’s a small thing in comparison to the still-fuzzy but definitely-existent role that Pence has been playing in Donald Trump’s Ukraine treason scandal, but it’s still a reminder that Pence is a complete joke.

Mike Pence’s other stunts of late have included staying at a Trump resort overseas, in such a blatant manner that it steered the media toward digging up Donald Trump’s larger grift of having the Air Force stay at his resorts in large numbers. Now Pence is having himself driven around on an island in a swing state where cars are disallowed, and are considered to be harmful and offensive. Pence just keeps finding ways to be an idiot.
