Donald Trump’s new HHS spokesman Michael Caputo caught deleting deranged racist tweets
Just a few days ago, Donald Trump installed his longtime loyalist Michael Caputo as the new HHS spokesman, in a move aimed at punishing and scapegoating HHS Secretary Alex Azar. To the surprise of no one, it turns out Caputo has quite a history of recent racist tweets – and now he’s been caught deleting them.
Apparently, just a few weeks ago, Michael Caputo tweeted that “millions of Chinese suck the blood out of rabid bats as an appetizer and eat the ass out of anteaters.” He’s since deleted it, but CNN caught him in the act. These tweets aren’t just racist and xenophobic against Chinese people, they’re unbelievably bizarre.
It’s notable that Michael Caputo was tweeting these racist remarks right around the time Donald Trump was obsessively tweeting that the coronavirus is the “Chinese virus.” Trump has since backed off from that language, for unknown reasons. But he clearly has no problem installing a racist like Caputo as his HHS spokesman. In fact, given Trump’s track record, Caputo’s racism may have helped him land the job.
In any case, we keep waiting to see how much longer before Donald Trump finishes scapegoating HHS Secretary Alex Azar by forcing him to resign in disgrace. Trump’s approval numbers continue to incrementally drop as questions mount about why he was so slow and dishonest in his coronavirus response. This is usually the part where Trump starts throwing his own people under the bus.
