After Dr. Sean Conley held a disastrous press conference today and appeared to unwittingly give away that Donald Trump actually tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday instead of Thursday, the White House quickly released an anonymous statement to the press pool, indicating that Trump’s condition was actually fairly dire.

Now various reporters have pieced together that it was actually White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows who issued the statement. So why is Meadows, a close Trump ally and protector, suddenly admitting to the media that Trump’s vital signs aren’t looking good, and that it’s not clear if he’ll recover? It seems pretty clear that Meadows is trying to put the focus on Trump’s current condition, in order to distract from the storyline about which day Trump really tested positive on.

In any case, this is all starting to look like Donald Trump intended to keep his coronavirus a secret and continue campaigning for as long as possible, and that he only grudgingly admitted to his condition after the Hope Hicks news leaked. If so, this is the coverup of the century, because it would mean that Trump went around exposing people to the virus on Thursday after he’d been diagnosed with coronavirus. It’s one thing to expose people when you think you may have the virus. It’s another to expose people when you know you have it.
