Mark Meadows is going to prison

Mark Meadows managed to get his name in the headlines in yet another ugly way today, amid reports that he was the last member of the Trump White House to be seen with a binder of classified intel about Russia that has since gone mysteriously “missing.” But it turns out Meadows has more immediate problems.

Meadows testified against Donald Trump to Jack Smith’s grand jury in exchange for limited immunity at the federal level. But Meadows decided not to cooperate with Fani Willis in her state level probe, and ended up getting criminally indicted. Meadows then filed to try to get his Georgia trial moved to federal court. He lost that ruling, and he got caught committing perjury in the process. This prompted Willis to let it be known to the media that she does not intend to let Meadows cut a deal.

So now the only hope Mark Meadows has left is his appeals court attempt at getting his Georgia trial moved to federal court. But the hearing took place for that appeal today, and by all accounts it went poorly for Meadows. So he’s very likely going to lose this appeal – which he never really had any hope of winning to begin with – and he’s going to end up standing trial in Fulton County. Given how many cooperators Willis has lined up, defendants like Meadows are nearly a lock for conviction and prison. And that’s before getting to the new question of what Meadows did with that binder of classified intel about Russia.
