John Lewis just ensured that Donald Trump is getting impeached

As Donald Trump’s Ukraine treason scandal continues to unravel, the march to impeachment is now advancing in real time. Seemingly every few minutes today, yet another House Democrat has come out in favor of impeaching Trump. Just now, one person spoke up and managed to single-handedly make impeachment inevitable.

When Democratic Congressman John Lewis speaks, people listen. More to the point, House Democrats listen. He carries arguably more influence than anyone in the building, simply because of who he is, despite not being Chairman of any of the powerful committees investigating Donald Trump’s scandals. Lewis is also the kind of stand-up guy who wouldn’t publicly call for impeachment if he thought that doing so would put Democratic House leaders in the kind of no-win situation that would be bad for the country.

So when John Lewis took to the House floor today and announced that “the time to begin impeachment proceedings against this president has come,” it’s a really big deal. In fact it’s a harbinger of two things. First, it’s going to take the steady stream of House Democrats calling for impeachment today, and turn it into a tidal wave. Second, it tells us a lot about what we can expect to happen during this afternoon’s House Democratic caucus meeting about impeachment.

This does not necessarily mean that House Democrats will come out of today’s meeting and announce that articles of impeachment are immediately being brought against Donald Trump. But it does mean that some major impeachment move is coming today, whether it be the formation of a select committee on impeachment, or something else to 100% signify to the public that Trump is in the process of being impeached. And yes, it means that before much longer, we’ll see those articles of impeachment – even if they don’t happen today. John Lewis just ensured that Trump is getting impeached.
