This morning a federal judge ruled that John Bolton’s book is already too far along in the release process to be stopped, and therefore Donald Trump’s request to stop the book has been rejected. Predictably, Trump is going berserk about it. But in an odd twist, Trump is maniacally trying to spin this obvious loss into some kind of victory.

Trump posted this surreal tweet: “BIG COURT WIN against Bolton. Obviously, with the book already given out and leaked to many people and the media, nothing the highly respected Judge could have done about stopping it…BUT, strong & powerful statements & rulings on MONEY & on BREAKING CLASSIFICATION were made Bolton broke the law and has been called out and rebuked for so doing, with a really big price to pay. He likes dropping bombs on people, and killing them. Now he will have bombs dropped on him!”

Here’s the thing. While the judge did raise concerns about John Bolton’s book, all it means is that Donald Trump can circle back in court later and try to punish Bolton. This won’t help Trump’s cause one bit, because by that time the book will have shipped, its revelations will have become front page news, and Trump’s already-sinking approval rating will have taken yet another hit at a time when he can’t afford it.

Yet all that Donald Trump appears to care about here is the opportunity for petty revenge against John Bolton. As Trump’s brain continues to falter and his presidency continues to collapse, he seems less focused than ever on trying to save himself, and only interested in taking people down with him.
