January 6th Committee formally targets Jim Jordan
When the January 6th Committee targeted comparatively obscure House Republican Scott Perry earlier this week with a letter accusing him of being in on the Trump-Clark plot to overthrow the election results, and asking him to cooperate with the committee’s investigation, it raised questions about why Perry was the first House Republican targeted. But even as we wait for answers about that, we know who’s being targeted second: Jim Jordan.
The committee has now formally asked Jim Jordan to cooperate with its investigation, according to multiple major news outlets. This is notable because Jordan has such a higher national profile than Perry does, meaning the stakes – at least in terms of public perception – are higher.
If Jim Jordan fails to immediately cooperate, the committee will surely subpoena him, and if he still doesn’t cooperate, the committee will likely refer him for criminal contempt to the Department of Justice. This would set up a scenario in which the DOJ could criminally indict and arrest Jordan, which would make for a remarkable and almost difficult to imagine spectacle. Yet we’re now on a clear path to that potential outcome.
