In ancient Greek mythological times, there was something that one was never supposed to do. And that something was to mimic the Gods. Never ever think yourself invincible. Never ever fly to close to the sun.

Of course the books are filled with colorful stories of mere mortals who proceeded to do just that — think themselves invincible. And it never worked out well for them. There was Echo and Narcissus. There was Arachne. And of course, there was Icarus. And in present times, there is Kevin McCarthy.

I do not know what Kevin is doing as I write these words, but I can practically guarantee whatever it is, it’s not being done with a smile. Kevin did what so many others did. He flew way too close to the sun. And now his Icarus moment is before him.

“he doesn’t have the votes.” This from Rep. Andy Biggs. Speaking with MSNBC, Biggs says Kevin McCarthy’s dream job is currently out of reach. And now Kevin is in what Biggs calls “denial.”

We warned him did we not, readers? We warned him to get off his high horse and not to fly too close to the sun, and he did it anyway. This is what happens when hubris comes to call. Mr. McCarthy needs 218 votes. He does not have that number of votes. He IS in denial.

“He doesn’t have the votes,” Biggs said. “Some of the stages of grief include denial, and then there’ll be the stage of bargaining where people are trying to figure out…will there be some kind of consensus candidate that emerges.”

Ouch. If it were someone with humility, I’d feel for them. Kevin has wanted this for so long — but I feel nothing for someone like him. Why? Because Kevin sold his soul and any loyalty to America he may have had. All for his ego — all for power.

This couldn’t have happened to a more rotten person. I have often spoken too of the rot from within. McCarthy may be cursed to be that kid outside the candy shop; hand outstretched for eternity.

Now, this does NOT mean he won’t eventually get the Speaker-ship. Not at all. But at what cost — if it even happens at all? We will have to wait to see if his Speakership took a mortal wound. But one thing is for sure. McCarthy flew INTO the sun — and right now his fall is playing out in front of millions.
