In a sign of just how disjointed Donald Trump’s legal defense has become, just a day after Trump was named an unindicted co-conspirator and his campaign chairman was convicted of eight felonies, his attorney Rudy Giuliani took off for a golfing vacation to Scotland. The optics don’t get much worse than that. But Rudy’s only real job is to say stupid things in the media, and he’s quickly proving he can do that quite effectively while he’s overseas.

Rudy Giuliani decided that it was important to run to a reporter from Sky News and tell the whole world that there is no reason for Donald Trump to be impeached. The Republican majority in Congress isn’t talking about impeachment, but by all means, leave it to Team Trump to help push that word further into the public focus. Then Rudy said this: “You could only impeach him for political reasons and the American people would revolt against that.”

Revolt? Really? Is he talking about a political revolt at the ballot box, or is he trying to signal to Trump’s supporters that they should grab actual pitchforks if Trump is impeached? It’s Rudy, so who the hell knows what he’s talking about – but melting down about impeachment is not exactly his best move. In fairness to Rudy, Donald Trump also stupidly began pushing the don’t you dare impeach me mantra during his Fox News interview today, insisting that the stock market will crash if he’s impeached.

So this is where Donald Trump and his team now stand. Their argument now is that Trump shouldn’t be impeached because money might be harmed, and also maybe pitchforks. What stands out here the most, besides them being idiots, is that they’re already trying to get out ahead of the impeachment thing – because they expect that he will be impeached. Of course that’ll likely only happen if the Democrats win the majority in November. Trump and Rudy just gave the Resistance even bigger motivation to go vote.
