When Bernie Sanders canceled a major event in Mississippi this past week in favor of campaigning in Michigan, it was clear that Joe Biden was on track to win Mississippi in a blowout, and that Sanders wasn’t even going to try to compete there. But up to now we haven’t seen any polling to tell us what kind of blowout we’re looking at – until now.

Polling outlet Data For Progress just published a new poll which shows Joe Biden getting 77% of the vote in Mississippi, with Bernie Sanders getting just 22% of the vote. That’s a 55 point lead, something very rarely seen in statewide presidential primary contests. To give you an idea of how dominant this is, Biden won South Carolina by about 30 points, and this would be nearly twice that large. But the good news for Biden keeps getting better.

Data For Progress also says that Joe Biden now has a 30 point lead in Missouri. Earlier this weekend Palmer Report pointed out that the two most recent polls in Missouri had Biden up by 22 points and 4 points, and we were wondering which of those two numbers was wildly wrong. Now that a third poll has arrived in the state and it has Biden up 30, it strongly points to the 22 number being more correct, and the 4 number being wrong. But wait, it gets even better for Biden.

A new poll tonight from Mitchell Research says that Joe Biden has a 21 point lead in Michigan. This comes after the Detroit News had Biden up by 6 points when the week began, and the State Journal had Biden down by 9 points three weeks ago. These are three different polling outlets, so take the apples-to-oranges comparison for what it’s worth, but combined they suggest that Biden has surged thirty points in Michigan in three weeks.

We would urge caution in believing any poll numbers out of Michigan, because its open primary format allowed a Republican-assisted Bernie Sanders to pull off a surprise upset victory in the state in 2016, and it could happen there again in 2020. But this Tuesday is clearly trending heavily in Biden’s favor – and he’s holding a rally in Detroit with Kamala Harris on Monday night to try to make sure he wins Michigan.
