House Republican debacle gets even more insane as Interim House Speaker threatens to resign
Jim Jordan still isn’t even close to having the votes to become Speaker of the House. But instead of dropping out, he and his allies have spent the day tanking a House Republican plan to give temporary powers to Interim Speaker Patrick McHenry. If Jordan can’t win, he wants everyone to lose.
Now things have gotten even uglier. Patrick McHenry is getting so sick of Jordan’s antics, he’s now threatening to resign as Interim House Speaker. This would mean that some other figurehead would become Interim Speaker. It would also mean that if Jordan’s bid collapses and House Republicans revert back to their plan to elevate the Interim Speaker, that plan would have to focus on whoever takes McHenry’s place.
This is all getting more insane by the hour. No matter how this plays out, keep in mind that several House Republicans in toss-up races in moderate districts have already cast at least one vote for Jim Jordan – and we won’t let their constituents forget it in 2024.
