“He’s just not worth it,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the Washington Post today about Donald Trump. Impeachment at this moment would be futile until there are significant new revelations that will allow it to succeed. She’s probably right on those points. Nancy Pelosi also has information we don’t, so she can afford to be patient. But patience takes time, and all of us are running out of it. Even Trump.

Trump spent a recent meeting calling the CEO of Apple, “Tim Apple” instead of Tim Cook. He tweeted later that he only did this to save time. He hasn’t been forced to watch himself for the past two plus years like we have, so he is oblivious to how much we want to save time and get him out of office. So to comfort ourselves, let’s look at some time saving in politics.

In December 2015, Frank Bruni wrote for the New York Times that a Bush 2000 alumnus asked the rhetorical question: “Why do people take such an instant dislike to Ted Cruz?” The answer was, “It just saves time.” Works for me! This timesaving device is also useful for Trump & Co. You don’t have to go looking for the next outrage. Just save time. Hoard your patience for Mueller. He’s the one with the really tough job.

In Trump’s tweet about why he called Tim Cook, Tim Apple, he said, “I quickly referred to Tim + Apple as Tim/Apple as an easy way to save time & words. The Fake News was disparagingly all over this, & it became yet another bad Trump story!” I think we should finally defend the guy in his quest to save time and words. His advice is good. Let’s all do the same. From here on out he will no longer be known as Donald J. Trump. He will go by the call sign “Trump Russia.”
