GOP Senator GOP John Cornyn gets blasted for going after desegregated schools
When the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade yesterday, it didn’t just issue an overtly sexist, obviously unconstitutional, partly incoherent, and fully deranged decision. Insurrection spouse Clarence Thomas issued an opinion in which he stated that the court should also revisit contraception and homosexuality.
After President Barack Obama condemned the Supreme Court’s insane move, Republican Senator John Cornyn fired back at him, going after desegregated schools in the process:
Most observers interpreted this to mean that Cornyn now wants the Supreme Court to strike down desegregated schools. After massive backlash, Cornyn tried to backpedal by insisting that he was merely defending the court’s decision to desegregate schools to begin with.
But few were buying it. John Cornyn’s tweet has received an astounding 21,000 mostly negative replies and counting. Cornyn is still posting tweets about this, insisting that he didn’t really say what most people think he said. But given how eagerly the right wing wants to undo all of modern American progress, how brazenly racist the modern Republican Party is on the whole, and Cornyn’s own record of being a piece of crap, he’s not going to get much benefit of the doubt here.
