Republicans will one day regret allowing Donald Trump to take over their party. He’s a one man show, looking out for one man. As he promised he would do, Trump has, for all intents and purposes, taken over the RNC with the elections of Michael Whatley as chair and Lara Trump as co-chair. Lara has already given a look as to how she plans to rule-get rid of anyone who doesn’t proclaim fealty to Trump. According to Washington Post, the firings began almost immediately and involved almost 60 people, and senior Trump adviser Chris LaCivita handled the firings. WaPo also reported that LaCivita had been complaining about RNC staff for several months. They came in with the idea of cleaning house. The Hill described the appointments: “In practice, the power dynamic is more like when the Roman emperor granted his family a shared consulship with an irrelevant senator.”

Trump is no stranger to nepotism. When he was unfortunately elected, he named both his daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared as “advisors.” It’s not as if any of them ever served in government before. Most wise politicians would have named people with more experience who could help to guide the new president, but we’re talking about Donald Trump. He could care less about experience because he thinks he knows everything. Besides, he’s not interested in anyone telling him what to do. He always prefers “yes” men and women around him. Looking back, Trump clearly wanted to run things as he saw fit-just like any other dictator.

Everyone knows why Trump wanted control of the RNC-money. He’s running out of it fast, and they have some he can take. The money is supposed to assist all Republicans running for office, but most will never see a dime. The thing is that the RNC hasn’t been fundraising as well as in past years, so there’s not a whole lot for Trump to take but take he will. He will bankrupt them in no time. They are missing one point: Trump Republicans are extremely unpopular, or as the Hill said, “staggeringly unpopular with voters.” Ken Buck (R-CO), who had already announced his retirement but decided to leave early, publicly saying that he’d had enough of Trumpism. Trump isn’t even paying attention; he’s salivating over the RNC coffers, but he might want to take notice.

Huffington Post reported on the Republican Accountability PAC, which has spent $50 million on a “Republican Voters Against Trump” campaign. The organization’s latest ad features former Trump voters who have said they will never vote for him again. Instead of using AI to create fake Black people, he might want to pay attention to the white people who are running from him like he has the plague. All of them call Trump “the biggest threat to democracy,” and lay responsibility for January 6 at his feet. Many of them voted for Trump in both 2016 and 2020, but they now say: “never again.” Those are the two most perfect words to use with Trump.
