Elise Stefanik just stepped in it

House Republican Elise Stefanik is increasingly willing to humiliate herself while kissing up to Donald Trump these days, amid media buzz that he could be considering her as his running mate. Unfortunately for Stefanik, Trump is so far gone that he didn’t appear to recognize her name when he saw it on the teleprompter this weekend, and instead ended up trying to pronounce it phonetically.

Worse for Stefanik, she doesn’t seem to be very good at the whole “kissing up to Trump” thing. She tried explaining away Trump’s senile repeated assertion that Nikki Haley was Speaker of the House, but the reporter quickly threw it back on Stefanik:

Stefanik also had a rough go of it this weekend when she tried to defend Trump in his E. Jean Carroll case. Fortunately for Stefanik, Trump doesn’t pick people based on competence, so she just might have a chance at being his running mate. But it’s pretty clear that she’s terribly ineffective at all of this. So he can pick her if he wants.
