Down goes Peter Navarro

We’re still waiting to see if Donald Trump adviser Peter Navarro ends up criminally indicted in Jack Smith’s January 6th criminal probe. After all, Navarro reportedly came up with the election overthrow plot with Steve Bannon. In the meantime, Navarro has already been tried and convicted on the lesser charge of contempt of Congress. And today he was sentenced to prison.

Navarro was given four months in prison, which was pretty much what was expected. Because this is a minor sentence on a minor charge, Navarro may be able to stay out of prison while appealing it. But he’ll end up in prison eventually.

Bannon was also sentenced to four months in prison for contempt of Congress. He’s also out of prison while appealing the sentence. But that will change when Bannon goes on trial on state charges for fraud in New York later this year. If Bannon is convicted in that trial he’ll be sentenced to several years. And it’s unlikely he’d be able to remain out of prison while appealing such serious charges.
