On Thursday, Donald Trump and his lawyers filed their response to Jack Smith’s filing with the Supreme Court. It was notable both because it was a gibberish filing aimed at making Trump feel good about himself as opposed to winning, and because Trump’s lawyers didn’t even drag the filing out to the deadline. It felt like they were saying to themselves, “We’re going to lose, let’s get this over with.” Now there’s an interesting twist.

There are still multiple civil suits pending against Donald Trump in relation to his attempt at overthrowing the 2020 election. Trump keeps claiming that he’s immune to these suits because of presidential immunity. But now Trump and his attorneys are passing up an opportunity to ask the Supreme Court to rule that Trump is immune from these suits.

In other words Trump is now allowing these civil suits to proceed against him, rather than ask the Supreme Court to rule that he’s immune from them – even as he’s in the process of asking the Supreme Court to rule that he’s immune from his criminal cases. Huh?

Let’s all take a minute to remember that there’s no four dimensional chess being played here. Trump is a senile idiot, and this is the same legal team that just got done making a gibberish filing with the Supreme Court. So no, there’s no secret evil genius master plan at work. Nor does Trump even seem to know what’s going on these days, so this is probably a decision made by his handlers. But why?

Adding the civil cases to the Supreme Court appeal could potentially drag the whole thing out longer. Everyone keeps saying that this is what Trump wants. But his actions suggest that he’s trying to get a Supreme Court ruling as quickly as possible. First he has his attorneys file well ahead of the deadline, and now his attorneys are declining to add something to the mix that could prolong the ruling.

It’s as if a senile delusional Trump has decided that the Supreme Court is going to rule in his favor, and so he wants that ruling to come down as quickly as possible. There’s no real world reason for Trump to think he can win this. But desperate people – particularly ones whose minds are going – tend to assign magical false hope to things. At this rate Trump may be causing himself to lose his last ditch appeal even more quickly than he otherwise would have.
