Awhile back the news surfaced that Special Counsel Jack Smith had legally obtained access to Donald Trump’s Twitter account via search warrant. This access included Trump’s private Direct Messages, or DMs. To date no one knows precisely what Smith was looking for or found in Trump’s DMs.

But as part of Trump’s ongoing pretrial appeals, it turns out the courts have in fact ruled that Jack Smith can use Trump’s DMs as evidence at the upcoming criminal trial. So what’s in these fateful DMs? Were these messages that Trump received, or sent, or both? We don’t know, other than that they’re very likely connected to the attempt at overthrowing the 2020 election.

The bottom line is that we’re going to find out once this gets to trial. That’s when Jack Smith will introduce this “Direct Message” evidence, and everyone will get to see how it connects to the criminal case against Trump. In the meantime, this is a good reminder that Trump just keeps losing on every legal front.
