Donald Trump’s magic “delay” wand has turned to dust

In spite of Donald Trump’s best effort at delaying his New York civil fraud trial and getting out of having to testify, his trial ended up happening when was supposed to, and he ended up having to testify on the exact day he was supposed to. So much for Trump having a magic “delay” wand.

For that matter, once Trump took the stand, he didn’t magically get away with all by pleading the fifth, or saying “I don’t recall” in response to every question. He didn’t even try these things because, well, they’re not magic wands either.

For all the relentless media and pundit hype we heard about how Trump was going to “delay delay delay” or “run out the clock” or use some other parlor trick for magically evading consequences in this trial, none of that happened. That’s because in the real world there simply are no magic wands. We’re reminded of this time and again.

This is important because the media will now try to convince us that Trump can magically “run out the clock” or use some other two bit trick when it comes to his criminal trials. But once again, there is no such thing. Trump couldn’t magically get out of his E. Jean Carroll trial or his New York fraud trial. He’s not going to magically get out of his criminal trials either. In spite of all the media hype to the contrary, this isn’t Harry Potter.
