Donald Trump’s Greek tragedy

Greek Mythology and I go together like Donald Trump and narcissism, George Santos and dishonesty, like Samual Alito and hatred of women. I’ve often thought the story of Donald Trump was a Greek tragedy. And it appears someone else agrees.

Former Prosecutor A. Scott Bolden made an appearance on MSNBC’s “All in” the other night. And he remarked, not only on what a Greek Tragedy this whole thing is but that Trump will be dragged down and imprisoned by his own self.

“If this were a Greek tragedy,” Scott said, “the chorus at the beginning would tell us that Donald Trump is going to violate every attempt by the judge to rein him in and end up in jail,” he said.

“Then we would just sort of watch it play out.”

“Like, this dude is going to do it, isn’t he?”

“If he were in therapy, they’d call him the eight-year-old narcissist and say that there’s nothing else they could do about it.”

Ah — A Greek tragedy. A Gala of a show that no doubt the folks of ancient Greece would have been fighting each other for a ticket to THIS show. Ever since the GOP opened Pandora’s box, the Trojan War has been going on. It’s an odyssey, alright. And Greek tragedies NEVER end well.

Hubris is often the central theme, but no theatrical writer could find a more perfectly formed malignant narcissist than Donald John Trump. Of course, most of these tragedies have a hero. And Donald Trump is no hero. But let’s have a bit of leeway here.

The office of the President of the United States IS heroic. It is SUPPOSED to be an office that only the great hold, only the valiant. I think in this particular Greek tragedy, things must be turned around a bit because there IS a hero in this tragic tale of a traitor, and this is one tragedy that shockingly breaks the rules and has a VERY happy ending.

The hero (heroes) win—the heroes in this story, my friends, are us. Everyone who cast their vote against Trump is a hero. Oh yes, the audience would be bubbling over with pride for us; Hercules seen to many as the ultimate Greek hero would approve.

We vanquished the dragon, and we did it through purity of soul — by voting. We did it LEGALLY because, unlike Trump and his ilk, we do not break the law, and WE know we can win elections using our own gutsiness, passions and and intelligence. Yes, this is one play with a very happy ending — for the heroes.
