Donald Trump’s defense team just had a disastrous day in New York civil fraud trial
Now that everyone named “Trump” has already testified and the prosecution has rested, it seems there’s less attention focused on Donald Trump’s New York civil fraud trial. That’s understandable, given that everyone knows the defense presentation is going to be an ineffective farce. And that’s definitely happening.
Just how badly is Trump’s side blowing it? This week they put a defense witness on the stand who, in the view of legal expert Glenn Kirschner, ended up tying Donald Trump to the conspiracy. It’s one thing for defense witnesses to be ineffective and do nothing to help the defendant. It’s a whole other thing for a defense witness to end up directly helping the prosecution. Defendants get to choose their witnesses, after all, and Team Trump somehow decided it would be a good idea to put this person on the stand.
And so the trial continues. Trump is still making angry and immature social media posts about the case, but those posts aren’t helping his prospects in any way. This trial is now just a couple weeks from its conclusion. The judge has already summarily ruled against Trump. Now it’s just a matter of finding out how massive the financial penalties are, and how Trump’s assets end up getting dismantled.
