While times of crisis can see the rise of unlikely leaders who meet the moment, Donald Trump seems to miss the moment every time. Even more importantly (and worse for him), the average person around him sees that he’s incapable of meeting the moment. A global pandemic occurred on his watch, largely being multitudes worse than it could have been because of his own criminal negligence.

A massive criminal occupation of a sovereign nation by a hostile foreign power happened shortly after his watch, in part, due to his disastrous foreign policy and he’s afraid to stand up to the belligerents. Now, despite four years of pretending to love Israel, he’s managed to show he’s even more ignorant about the current conflict in the region than even we thought.

It wasn’t enough that he praised Hamas last week, now he’s going after his own longtime ally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and not because of his actual leadership of Israel, but because Netanyahu praised President Biden over his message of support for Israel. At a time when Donald Trump needs to siphon support from his Republican rivals in a large primary, he made the worst possible remark he could make, and managed to draw rebukes even from members of his own party.

It’s just the latest in a long pattern of the former guy only maintaining allies for when he needs them and then discarding them at the first sign of disloyalty but it comes at a time when Trump is particularly weak and he’s basically telegraphing once again to his own party and his leadership that we couldn’t possibly survive another four years of his policies.
