Donald Trump couldn’t care less about whether average Americans are being given unfairly long federal prison sentences, or how those people are being treated while they’re in prison. Why would he? He’s a sociopath. Nor does Jared Kushner care. For that matter, Jeff Sessions โ€“ a white supremacist โ€“ would probably like to see nonwhite Americans suffer even more in prison. Yet these three guys are suddenly obsessed with the idea of federal prison reform. It’s not difficult to figure out why.

Trump hosted reality show buffoon Kim Kardashian at the White House today. Officially, the discussion was about the fate of Alice Marie Johnson, who has been given a ridiculously long prison sentence for a first time drug offense. We agree that Johnson should be freed. But let’s be real here: that’s not what any of this is about.

As we’ve explained, Trump felt he needed a series of distractions today in order to distract the news cycle from the ugly bombshell that he expects to drop any minute now. It’s why he chose to bring Kim Kardashian to the White House today, as it created a huge spectacle. But this was all staged. Trump has a personal relationship with Kim and her husband Kayne West, and it’s not difficult to figure out that this was a choreographed distraction. But there’s more to it when it comes to the prison thing.

Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, and Jeff Sessions have all decided to take up the prison reform cause of late. Given what we know of these three men, their politics, and their character, this is absolutely inexplicable โ€“ unless you consider one key factor. All three of these guys are facing long sentences in prison for their roles in the Trump-Russia scandal and various other alleged crimes. They’re hoping they can improve federal prison conditions before they end up being sent there.
