Donald Trump has a whole new problem

Something quite odd (but deeply important) occurred on Sunday that I would like to share with you. Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy appeared on Sunday on “Meet the Press.” That in itself is no surprise. But what Cassidy said—and didn’t say—has people talking.

Cassidy first expressed anger that Donald Trump speaks about immigrants in such a “dehumanizing fashion.” He also appeared upset that Trump’s been talking about offering pardons to the J-6 Terrorists if he is elected, which he will not be.

But then Cassidy was asked a question — an important one. Would Trump follow the Constitution if he were President again? Incredibly, Cassidy refused to answer.

This is important for many reasons. First, it shows that Cassidy has no faith in Donald Trump. But it’s also a question that has really not been asked much of the Republicans—and it should be.

Our Constitution is the resplendent crown jewel of America. It’s the most precious of precious documents, the glue that holds this beautiful nation together, its words the poetry from whom democracy obtains its sustenance to go on working.

And Republicans like Cassidy don’t feel like their own nominee would follow it? The fact is Donald Trump would NOT obey the Constitution, would NOT act lawfully, and would NOT accomplish a damn thing. And the American people deserve to know who they’re voting for — and not voting for.

So I do believe that EVERY SINGLE Republican needs to be asked that question, and the American people deserve to hear its answer. Cassidy’s silence on the issue was telling.

What is also impressive are the number of Republicans who will not endorse Donald Trump. Cassidy did not do so .. Mike Pence just came out and said he would not do so. Many of Trump’s former staff members still need to do so. What is going on here?

The fact is that the Trump ‘campaign” ( and I use that term loosely) can’t get many of its own party members to endorse Trump. That is HUGE news. It is virtually unheard of. We know, of course we know, the reasons why. It’s because Trump has become an embarrassment, a greasy stain on the Republican party and an albatross.

It is only the beginning of campaign season, so we are still determining how many OTHER Republicans will do the same and refuse to endorse. If Trump keeps going the way he is, ranting and raving and making gaffes and, in general, acting like the asshole he is– then who knows? Perhaps more will follow.
